Stories
Put dashboards in order and present them page by page, like a slideshow with live data. Build a story in iX Engineer; watch and share it from the Stories panel.
What it is
A story is a named collection of dashboards shown one after another. Each page can carry its own title and a short note that tells the viewer what to look at. Viewers move through it with Previous and Next, and every dashboard stays live: they can still use its filters.
Use it for monthly reviews, client updates, or any meeting where you would otherwise copy charts into slides.
Key features
- Any dashboard you can open can be a page, and the same dashboard can appear twice.
- Reorder pages by dragging or with the arrows.
- A title and a note for every page, shown above the dashboard.
- An opening page with the story’s name, its description and the list of pages. Switch it off if you want to start straight on the first dashboard.
- Seven colour themes for the cover: iMatriX, Ocean, Forest, Sunrise, Bloom, Dusk and Graphite.
- Optional play by itself: the story moves on after a number of seconds you choose.
- A top bar with Previous, Next, a page picker and full screen. The left and right arrow keys work too.
- Share with named people as viewers or editors, or with everyone who uses iX Engineer.
- A viewer can open every page of a story through the story, even if the dashboards were not shared with them one by one. The data on each page still follows their own access.
Build a story
- 1Open iX Engineer from the sidebar and choose Story, then New story.
- 2Give it a name and a short description, and choose a colour. The preview on the right updates as you go.
- 3Choose Add dashboard, click the dashboards you want (click again to add one a second time) and press Done.
- 4Reorder the pages. Open the note button on a page to give it a title and a note for the viewer.
- 5Turn the opening page and Play by itself on or off, then Save.
You can only add dashboards that you can open yourself.
Watch and share
Watch
- 1Open Stories from the sidebar. You see your own stories and the ones shared with you as cards.
- 2Open a story. The opening page lists its pages; press Start.
- 3Move with the Previous and Next buttons in the top bar, with the arrow keys, or jump with the page picker. The full-screen button fills the display.
Share
| Role | May |
|---|---|
| Viewer | Watch the story and use the filters on its pages. |
| Editor | Also change its pages, order, notes and look. |
| Owner | Also change who can see it, share it and delete it. |
Open the story and choose Share. Stories are private until you share them.
Tips and limits
- A story holds up to 40 pages.
- Play by itself waits between 3 and 300 seconds per page (15 seconds if you do not choose).
- Changes to a dashboard show up in every story that uses it.
- If a page says it cannot load, the dashboard may have been deleted or its charts moved. Edit the story and remove or replace the page.
- Building a story needs the Story part of iX Engineer access. Watching one does not.
